Hey Y'all,
"Truly" was the last spelling word on my 8 yr old's list for homework one night. "My dad is truly in love with my mom" was the sentence he came up with.
My husband and I hug, kiss and show plenty of affection towards one another in the presence of our children. Our youngest son 'screams like a girl' (his words not mine) when ever we kiss in front of him. Our daughter say's 'do it again' and my oldest apparently just watches. He knows what love is. He knows that his mom and dad may have lively discussions (we don't argue) and even disagree but he know's that his dad is truly in love with his mom and vice versa.
I didn't grow up with my dad in the house and didn't see him everyday. I didn't see my parents kiss or show one another affection.Aside from my mom preparing my dads meal with care I can't say that I ever saw the affection a man gave to a woman.
I'm blessed and I know it. I'm blessed because my husband and I are able to give our children everything that we lacked in the area of marriage and relationship as children. I pray that our children continue to see our love and know that's it right to show affection toward their loved ones. I posted this picture on my Facebook page and I now have 66 likes! I'm glad that others appreciate what I have and am proud to share.
Until next time...

A Lesson In Patience
1. the quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or the like.pa·tience
2. an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay: to have patience with a slow learner.
3. quiet, steady perseverance; even-tempered care; diligence: to work with patience. When she woke up this morning at 3:33 a.m. crying because she wanted to sleep in my bed I held my ground and didn't let her, no matter how long she cried.
When he continued to ask me to play on the computer at 7:30 a.m. I told him in a firm clear voice that he could go to sprout online later.
When I woke up and found that my phone was turned off (even though it's my only way to connect with people who may be interested in hiring me) I didn't flip out I just gave my potential employer my home phone number and kept it moving.I'm learning patience and it's not easy. I can be a VERY impatient person. When driving I am that person who is "cussing" (I don't really curse I say things like big dummy and seriously) my fellow road warriors out. When things aren't going my way I have to walk away before I hurt someone. Patience is not something I can honestly say I possess. I must be honest and share that this time of unemployment and being home with my children is really teaching me how to be patient. I like the second definition of patience above "an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay".
I know that as a Christian I must have patience because is it one of the fruits of the spirit. I want to live a life of patience and I guess I have to be tested to see how far off course I am. I am determined to win this test.
As a parent do you struggle with any of the fruits of the spirit?
Until next time...

Rediscovery is a good thing...
Hey Y'all:
My husband and I have been married for 13 years; without children for the first 8 so we had plenty of time to learn one another and to develop our relationship without distraction. Now that we are the proud parents of three beautiful children; with very limited time together. My beautiful mother was gracious enough to take the children for a good part of this summer giving us the opportunity to rediscover one another. Since my children have been gone I've realized yet again that I truly love this man.
I learned that he still makes my heart beat faster when I know he's coming into my presence
I learned that I am excited to sit and have conversations with him about things big and small.
I learned that he is patient, kind and really rather smart.
Over the past six weeks I was reeducated on why I said "I do" in the first place. He still makes me smile and weak in the knees. His drive is intoxicating and his talent is invigorating I learned that I have a life long friend in this man that I've known well over 15 years.
I wrote this as an exercise a few months back and decided that I want to post it again.
My husband is a God fearing man who loves his family unconditionally; he shows us by his deeds and actions on a daily bases. He is taller then me, strong and well built, his arms are strong enough to lift a heavy load but gentle enough to hug his children's pain away. My husbands voice can be comforting and stern all in the same breath. He is patient and understanding, he is a gentle lover and a passionate father. He is mine and I'm so blessed to have him in my life.
Until next time...

The Nana Effect
Hey Y'all:
My oldest son Erick is in love with my mother. From the day he was born he has looked at her like she was something good to eat. It didn't help any when she introduced him to his first taste of sweet potato, which she of course shared on her finger.
At five years old he still loves her just as intensely and shows it whenever she comes to visit us from N.C. and heads back home. I share this because we had a bit of a Nana episode the other night.
I was sitting on my bed and reached out for my boy. He came and I gave him a great big hug (I was having a mommy moment) during the hug I said, "ohhhhhhhhhhhh I love my Erick," my precious boy says "ohhhhhhhhhh I love my nana." Of course I was outraged, hurt, confused and a little sad. Here I was having a mommy moment, expressing my love for him verbally and this little ball of testosterone says "I love my nana" this gave me flashbacks of our 'private time' day when he told me that he loves his daddy 12 and me 5! I just can't win.
Why can't I get the same love???? I know he loves me but I guess it's not the same as Nana love. I really have to get over it. Maybe when he turns 15 I won't feel so bad when he loves some little chippy over me and his nana?
What have your children said that has hurt, offended or floored you?
Until next time...

Keep hope alive!

Hey Y'all:
There is hope for you single folks!
My SVP just told us a story of her mom (76) getting engaged to her 80 year old boyfriend!
The story goes... they dated and were engaged when she was 17 years old. Things didn't quite work out for what ever reason and they parted ways. They both married and remained with their spouses until death did them part. My SVP's dad has been deceased for 16 years and her mom's "boyfriend" has been a widow for 3 years.
The cute couple reunited and rekindled their romance after well over 40 years. Now they are planning a summer wedding! How about that?
So ladies and gentlemen don't lose hope, there is someone out there just for you. You never know who might resurface from your past!
I know it's not Valentine's Day or anything but please feel free to share your sweet romance stories with me!
Until next time...

Top 10 Reasons Why...

Hey Y'all:
With all the drama surrounding Tiger Woods, Shaq and all the other celebs with marital issues I figured I'd dedicate this post to marriage.
Here are my top 10 reason why I love being married!
10. He gets me!
My husband understands who I am. He has learned to read my body language and knows how to navigate around all the Mrs Deveterness

10. He gets me!

9. I'm better when I'm with him.
Don't need to add anything to this... it is what it is.
8. Marriage is honorable
Hebrews 13:4 says Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. Doesn't matter how long you are with a person (common law marriage) if you aren't legally tied to your loved one you gets nothing...
7. We are a team.
In the words of Lenny, Tuck and Ming Ming (the Wonder Pets of course) What's gonna work? Team work! If we didn't operate as a team NOTHING would get done in our house!
6. He still gives me goose bumps!
When he's working late and I hear his keys in the door little goose bumps rise on my flesh because I know that my man is home safe. When I see him walking toward me from whatever location he was, my heart starts to beat a little faster because I know he's mine. After 18 years he still excites me.
5. He protects me.
Like any man should. My husband protects his family at all costs!
4. He keeps me honest.
With the level of communication we have there is no other choice then to be honest and loyal.
3. He pushes me to be my best.
He sees things in me that I often don't. He's knows that I'm capable of doing so much more. He pushes me past what I think I can achieve.
2. He loves me the way Christ instructed him to!
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
The #1 reason why I love being married is because I don't have to live this life alone, unfulfilled trying to figure it all out. I commend single mothers and single people in general. I can't imagine being on the dating scene in this day and age.
Are you HAPPILY married? If so why do you love being married?
Until next time...
