Women In Ministry: Pastor Margaret Hodges

Senior Pastor Margaret A. Jamison Hodges
Greater St. Paul Healing & Deliverance
International Worship Center
Brooklyn, New York

Stats: Senior Pastor Margaret Hodges, is a servant at heart. During her Christian walk she has served as Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, Y.P.H.A. President for 19½ years, Pastor’s Aide Member, Director of the Outreach Ministry, and Choir Chaplain before accepting the call to shepherd God’s people. In the early 1970's Pastor Hodges was invited to service at St. Paul United Church of God; it was there that she met the woman who God used to bring change to her life – the late Senior Pastor Ernestine M. Shiver. who was an anointed woman of class, character, charm and dignity. She ministered a word of healing that told Margaret to rise from the ashes of defeat, to forget those things that are behind, and reach forth to the things that were before her. Pastor E.M. Shiver ministered to the person that was locked inside of Margaret. Pastor Shiver became the friend and mother Margaret needed by encouraging her and imparting spiritual gifts into her life through the laying on of hands. Margaret was the first soul of many birthed into the ministry because Pastor Shiver was willing to obey the voice of the Lord.Remembering the first time Pastor Shiver shared with Margaret the plan of becoming a pastor, she said, “Not me, you mean someone else.” Even when she was to preach the word, she was not so willing to do so and Pastor Shiver would say, “When the Lord gets through with you, you’ll be glad to say yes.”

Women In Ministry: Pastor Lois Rochford

Hey Y'all,

As promised here is my Black History Month celebration of Black women. I decided that I would celebrate Black women in ministry and I've chosen to honor women I know personally.
I pray you enjoy my contribution to Black History Month and that you are inspired by the women I honor.

First up is the Senior Executive Pastor of New Life Cathedral Pastor Lois Rochford

Stats: Pastor Lois is the First Lady of New Life Cathedral, under the capable leadership of her husband, Bishop Robert Joel Rochford. She is Pastor of Worship and Sacred Arts and President of the Women’s Department of New Life Cathedral. For several years, Pastor Rochford further extended her passion and ministry to develop well-balanced women through a weekly telecast, Naomi’s Side, which aired on WNYW-channel 26. Her burden is for women to live balanced and productive lives. She teaches women the importance of balancing the demands of home and ministry, with home being the first priority. Pastor Rochford is president of Your Sunday Best Everyday, LLC, whose mission is to assist women in maximizing their God-given potential to express a fusion of Faith and Fashion – Inner Beauty with an outer Manifestation. She is available for workshops, seminars, and private consultations.

Black History Month 2012

Hey Y'all:

Black History Month or African American History Month is upon us again and this year we get an extra day!
A whopping 29 days to focus on the contributions of African American's to our culture.

My facebook friends always seem to prompt me into action and I was excited to read the below which has given me direction for this years celebration.

Every year there's a different theme for February's celebration of African American History Month, also called Black History Month for short. What's this year's theme? And who sets the theme agenda?

Answer: The 2012 theme for African American History Month, celebrated in February, is "Black Women in American: Culture and History."

This conveniently combines February's celebration of Black History Month with March's celebration of Women's History Month.

The theme is announced annually by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH)in Washington DC, which also offers "theme kits" for every African American History year.

Over the next two months I will focus on Black Women in Ministry and then Black Women Entrepreneurs. I'll share their stories of struggle and success. This should be fun.

Until next time...

The Brave & The Bold

Hey Y'all:

As you've read previously my family is full of super heroes. We love anything Justice League or DC Comics related. So I wasn't surprised when my children began singing a song from one of the shows called Batman: The Brave and The Bold. Although modern this animated series (recently canceled) has the old school Batman of the 1970's feel. My children adore music and this song is one of their favorites.

Here is the 3 little Brown's rendition of this tune.

Resolution vs. Goal

Hey Y'all

Happy New Year to you! I pray that you had a wonderful holiday season and are geared up for an exciting 2012; I know I am!

So I was thinking about all the resolutions I could make this year and all the ones that I made last year that lasted for about a week; you know the typical ones - lose weight, read more yada yada yada... this year I decided I wanted to do some fact finding before I made any resolutions.

I wondered... what is the difference between a resolution and a goal.

A goal is an observable and measurable end result having one or more objectives to be achieved within a more or less fixed time frame.

A resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something. Based on these definitions I think people fail at resolutions because they aren't paired with fixed time frames and measurable end results.

I won't be making any resolutions this year but setting goals for myself and my family. I won't make them public but I will write them and pray that I am able to follow through!

Did you make any New Year resolutions?

Until next time...
