Hi all,
I know it's been a LONG time but a friend shared this Ted Talk with me and I had to share on this Adoption Wednesday.
I never thought about all the famous figures we have watched and read for many many years who were either adopted, looked after or fostered by people.
"Literature has long been fascinated with fostered, adopted and orphaned children, from Moses to Cinderella to Oliver Twist to Harry Potter. So why do many parentless children feel compelled to hide their pasts? Poet and playwright Lemn Sissay tells his own moving story. This was filmed at TEDxHousesofParliament.

What's In Your Wallet?
After a WONDERFUL walk down the Coney Island boardwalk with my husband, son and Godmother I reached in my pocketbook to pull out my wallet and lo and behold it wasn't there. Now folks we are talking about the crowded Coney Island boardwalk on a Sunday of a holiday weekend. I knew for sure that someone had pick pocked me! But how? My pocketbook was strapped over my shoulder and in front of me the entire time.
As I'm totally freaking out, my husband, the cool cucumber kept saying are you sure you even had your wallet? It was a big chance that it either fell out of my purse in the car or that is was sitting at home nice and safe in the purse I wore earlier in the day. I was on pens and needles the entire ride home (it wasn't in the car) thinking about all the things I had in my wallet that would need to be canceled and replaced.
I thought about identity thief's having a field day with my SS number, because my card was in my wallet. I thought about the piece of paper with the SS# of each of my family member's (why do I have that in my wallet?), my license, bank cards, credit cards etc... I was dreading the possibility that all was lost! Thankfully after the longest ride home in the history of rides home, my wallet was tucked safely in the purse from earlier in the day (Thank You Lord)! This got me to think about all the items in my wallet that shouldn't be in there. So I took a quick look on the internets to see what I should and shouldn't keep in my wallet. Here is the best list I could find, so I'm sharing with you!

Reach For the Stars
Hey Y'all,
My children received Sonic Colors for their Wii this Christmas and they have been playing it non stop. The theme song to this game is super catchy and very positive take a listen:
The lyrics to this song are inspirational and something that I don't mind my children listening to and even singing themselves. I know that there are negative reports about video games etc. but there is always something to learn from every single medium. While in the kitchen cooking the boys were playing the game, the theme song came on and my oldest son gave my youngest son a full science lesson about the planets. I was totally shocked by how much he knew and how easy it was for him to explain the reason for the change of seasons to his brother.
This song is currently on repeat in my brain and this part of the lyrics specifically -
Pretty cool song with a lesson for kids to learn. Never give up. Keep pushing for your dreams and don't settle for less. You can find inspiration in anything and this week for me it's been the Sonic Colors theme song.
Until next time...

Do what I want, and I'll do it my way
The world is flying right below my feet
Got no regrets inside of me.
Not looking back (Not looking back)
Not giving up (Not giving up)
Not letting go
I'll keep on running!
I'm gonna reach for the stars
Although they look pretty far
I'm gonna find my own way
And take a chance on today

Everything is AWESOME!
Hey Y'all,
My self induced hiatus is over!! I'm back and so ready to share.
It has been snowing here in NYC on and off for the past month. 2014 has had a weather system like never before, from the super duper cold to the crazy snow it's been quite interesting.
But ...
EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
This past weekend the family and I attended a NYC screening of The Lego Movie hosted by MommyNoire.com the film was absolutely a must see. We all left the theater singing this song, over and over again.
The Lego Movie story line was excellent, casting was perfect and the 2D wasn't hard on the eyes (sometimes I walk out of those movies with a major headache). The folks at Warner Brothers did a fabulous job not only getting the kids involved but many of the jokes were amazing for the adults that were in the audience.
My favorite character was Lord Business played by Will Ferrell. Lord Business was also known as President Business. He was the evil businessman and tyrant who wanted everything to remain the same in Lego Universe. I won't giveaway much information but I will say that it was a great movie and a ton of fun for the little Brown's. When you have a free moment please check out the trailer.

Happy 39th Birthday To Me!!!! -- My 30's
Hey Y'all,
I love birthday's especially mine!!!!
On November 2nd I welcomed the last year of my 30's. This decade of my life has been utterly amazing. At 30 I become a whole new person, my name was changed and my heart grew by leaps and bounds. At 30 I became a mommy the most awe inspiring role any woman can ever hold. At 35 my life became even sweeter when I welcomed my special babies into the world. Shock and awe at the fact that I could produce twins is an understatement. To this day I still look at them in amazement. My children have helped me craft a life of purpose. They have allowed me too see the best and worst of who I am as a woman, wife, daughter and Friend. In 2008 I left a job that I thought I would have for years to come. But staying stagnant is not the way of the 21st century. I endeavored to be a champion and started a new career path that I wasn't sure I was cut out to do; but alas God had an awesome plan. It was at this new job that I made post college life long friends. It is at this job that I added a new title to my name. I became a blogger. My love for writing was rekindled and an opportunity to be an influencer in my community was born. In my 30s I was treated to first class celebrity filled trips that I didnt pay a dime for. At 37 the unthinkable happened I was laid off of my job. I was shocked, sad and confused but something positive can often result from a negative situation. While out of work I learned, patience. Something that only come with time and experience.
I had the opportunity to spend quantity time with my babies which is something I never had the chance to do. And through this experience I learned how to be patient. Patient with myself the children and the process of finding a new job. It was not easy and many things Reade stopped from us including our home. It was through that process however that the bond between my children and I became stronger than super glue. I discovered how smart and unique each of them are. Today I can honestly say I would take nothing in place of my journey. While unemployed I started a crochet business! I named it after my beautiful daughter and have been experiencing an wonderful amount of success. In my 30s I learned to love everything about me. My highs my lows and everything in between that makes me an awesome Me. In my 30s I feel in love with my husband all over again. I feel in love with his zeal for life, desire to succeed and his adaptation to the ever changing facets of fatherhood. In my 30s my love for God and his word have developed ten fold. I hunger and thirst after righteousness like never before. I attribute my spiritual growth to the Bible lead and spirit filled teachings of my bishop and Pastor, who were also added to my life in my 30s.
This final year in this decade is shaping up to be one for the record books. In the past three months I have traveled to four different states three of which I haven't been to since I was in my 20/early teens and one I've never been to. I'm super excited about the coming year and continuing to leave my mark on this world. It is My desire to leave this earth empty. As my bishop says. I want to use every gift God has given me. I refuse to hold onto anything that I'm supposed to pour out into this earth.
Until next time...

Werther's Original® Baking Bash MommyParties
Hey y'all,
A few months ago I was picked to host a Werther's Original® Baking Bash MommyParty!!!! I was super excited especially when I received my box of yummy Werther's Caramel in the mail! My mother in law was watching them like a hawk because she didn't know what I was planning to do with them. I allowed her to sample a few of the smooth caramels and she was hooked.
This past weekend the kids and I had a sugary bash on our play date. We made the most delicious caremel apples and fun filled caramel topped sundaes.
Here are a few pictures from our play date!
The caramels are great and will be included in a few snacks during this holiday season. I wasn't paid for this program but I'm so glad that I was able to contribute. It was a fun play date and we'll do it again. Please check out their site and enjoy the yummy recipes they share. http://werthers. werthersecloud.us.

Say, NO MORE! to Domestic Violence
Hey y'all,
October is full of awareness! Yesterday I posted about Breast Cancer and today I post about Domestic Violence Awareness!
Did you know...
One in three women (30%) report being a victim of domestic violence; one in five women (20%) report being a victim of sexual assault.
60% of Americans, 15 years of age or older, know a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault. Among the 70% of women who have experienced domestic violence and told someone about it, more than half (58%) said that no one helped them.
Three out of four (73%) parents with children under the age of 18 said that they have not had a conversation about violence in the home.
Three quarters of Americans (75%) say they would step in and help if they saw even a stranger being abused, but almost two thirds (64%) of Americans age 15 or older say if we talk more about domestic violence and sexual assault, it would make it easier to help someone.
The Avon Foundation for Women commissioned and funded the NO MORE Study, conducted by GfK Public Affairs and Corporate Communications, to research domestic violence and sexual abuse among teens, ages 15-17,and adults 18 and older, in an effort to further support the Foundation’s mission of educating people to reduce sexual assault and domestic violence. Click here to download a PDF of the full study.
NO MORE is a new unifying symbol designed to galvanize greater awareness and action to end domestic violence and sexual assault. Supported by major organizations working to address these urgent issues, NO MORE is gaining support with Americans nationwide, sparking new conversations about these problems and moving this cause higher on the public agenda. I fully support this campaign and hope that you would as well. Please learn more here.

Ladies... Don't Be Afraid to Touch Yourself!
Hey y'all,
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A time set aside for education, engagement and early detection of this deadly disease.
According to The American Cancer Society in 2013, an estimated 232,340 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed among US women, as well as an estimated 64,640 additional cases of in situ (abnormal cells inside a milk duct in the breast) breast cancer.
That year, approximately 39,620 US women were expected to die from breast cancer. Only lung cancer accounts for more cancer deaths in women.
Breast Cancer is real. It effects so many families, it goes beyond color lines, social economics, religion etc. It is a destroyer of families and is not to be ignored or discounted. As I do every year I write about Breast Cancer and the effect it had on my family. The loss of two of my aunts and most recently the disease has reared it's ugly head into my generation and touched my beautiful sister in law. Thankfully with knowledge and aggressive medial and spiritual measures my Sister is on the mend. God is certainly good and His mercy endures forever!
Please self test and be aware of the changes your body may be going through.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. The best way to fight breast cancer is to have a plan that helps you detect the disease in its early stages. Create your Early Detection Plan to receive reminders to do breast self-exams, and schedule your clinical breast exams and mammograms based on your age and health history. Everything has gone digital so please download this app with reminders etc.
Self Exam Directions...
1) IN THE SHOWER
Using the pads of your fingers, move around your entire breast in a circular pattern moving from the outside to the center, checking the entire breast and armpit area. Check both breasts each month feeling for any lump, thickening, or hardened knot. Notice any changes and get lumps evaluated by your healthcare provider.
2) IN FRONT OF A MIRROR
Visually inspect your breasts with your arms at your sides. Next, raise your arms high overhead.
Look for any changes in the contour, any swelling, or dimpling of the skin, or changes in the nipples. Next, rest your palms on your hips and press firmly to flex your chest muscles. Left and right breasts will not exactly match—few women's breasts do, so look for any dimpling, puckering, or changes, particularly on one side.
3) LYING DOWN
When lying down, the breast tissue spreads out evenly along the chest wall. Place a pillow under your right shoulder and your right arm behind your head. Using your left hand, move the pads of your fingers around your right breast gently in small circular motions covering the entire breast area and armpit.
Use light, medium, and firm pressure. Squeeze the nipple; check for discharge and lumps. Repeat these steps for your left breast.
This year I am making these cute Breast Cancer Awareness earrings and will donate a potion of the funds to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Inc. in honor of my Aunt's Ruby and Betty. Please show your support at Leah Simone Designs.
Until next time.... be safe.

We Did It! Hooray!!!!
Hey y'all,
As of 2:50 pm this afternoon 9/20 we have completed 2 full weeks of school!!!! We survived back to school night, Myles is his class Mayor, Leah has a boyfriend (a boy that's a friend) and Erick has been wearing his glasses consistently and got an 85% on his first test AND he signed up to play the trumpet!!!!
To say it's been a whirlwind of activity in our house is an understatement. I am a lunch/snack packing pro now and have the cookie cutter sandwiches down to a science. I'm tired however of them eating salami sandwiches everyday so next week I think I'm going to shake their lunch bags up. Wondering how they'll do with some friend chicken, baby carrots etc. Not sure but the sandwiches can't continue into next week.
So grateful that we are in a great school system with small class sizes we are blessed. Hoping that your first couple weeks of school have been successful.
Until next time...

Back To School Fashion (CRISIS)
Hey Y'all,
Why oh why can't everybody make their children wear uniforms? I know I wrote about trying to get Erick to wear uniforms to school when it wasn't a rule but now I have three little people to send off to school and I can't figure out what they should wear. I want my little ones to have their own fashion identity and not look like everyone else specially since they aren't wearing uniforms. But if I'm not mistaken I'm sure just about every mom in the northeast will be visiting Children's Place for their back to school fashions! Although I love their jeans I really don't want Leah to end up having the same shirt on that her desk mate is wearing. What pray tell should a budget conscious mama do?
I know what they won't be wearing....
What style will your kiddies sport this year?
Until next time...

Suicide Watch...
Hey Y'all,
While scrolling my Facebook timeline I saw the image of Lee Thompson Young, the former star of late '90s Disney Channel series The Famous Jett Jackson, and current star of one of my favorite TNT shows Rizzoli & Isles, the caption was about his self inflicted gunshot wound. He is dead.

Although the following information is dated the numbers are daunting and I know they are higher today.
According to the CDC:

Although the following information is dated the numbers are daunting and I know they are higher today.
According to the CDC:
- Suicide was the tenth leading cause of death for all ages in 2010.
- There were 38,364 suicides in 2010 in the United
- States--an average of 105 each day.
- Based on data about suicides in 16 National Violent
- Death Reporting System states in 2009, 33.3% of suicide decedents tested positive for alcohol, 23% for antidepressants, and 20.8% for opiates, including heroin and prescription pain killers.
- Suicide results in an estimated $34.6 billion in combined medical and work loss costs.
- Talking about wanting to die
- Looking for a way to kill oneself
- Talking about feeling hopeless or having no purpose
- Talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain
- Talking about being a burden to others
- Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs
- Acting anxious, agitated or recklessly
- Sleeping too little or too much
- Withdrawing or feeling isolated
- Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge
- Displaying extreme mood swings
- The more of these signs a person shows, the greater the risk. Warning signs are associated with suicide but may not be what causes a suicide.
- Do not leave the person alone
- Remove any fi rearms, alcohol, drugs or sharp objects that could be used in a suicide attempt
- Call the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255)
- Take the person to an emergency room or seek help from a medical or mental health professional

STRANGER DANGER: What would your child do?
Hey Y'all:
We have had the stranger danger talk with our children. Don't go with strangers, don't talk to strangers etc. but if you take a look at this video let me know what you think your children might do when a cute dog and a 'safe' looking man is involved.
Baby my heart was in my mouth after watching this. How do we really teach our children about strangers and who they should and should not trust? Check out Raising America with Kyra Phillips on HLN tomorrow 8/2 at Noon.
How have you handled this discussion with your children? Please leave comments.

5 Must Do's with Your Girlfriends (sister friends, gal pals, bff's etc)
Hey Y'all
Today is National Girlfriend's Day.
Girlfriends or sister friends as I refer to mine; are the women you can always depend on. Whether you call on them to share exciting news, need a shoulder to cry on, someone to pray with, hang out, babysit etc. a true Girlfriend has your back! I recently lost one of my girlfriends and will miss her dearly. Some of the things on this list are activities that we shared and I'll miss doing them with her but will make sure I hang out or catch up with my living girlfriends more often.
Watch a chick flick. Send the kids and your honey out for a play date, call up your girls and watch the eight films I've listed below. You know as you watch, laugh and cry they'll hand you tissues.
5 Must Do's With Your Girlfriends
Watch a chick flick. Send the kids and your honey out for a play date, call up your girls and watch the eight films I've listed below. You know as you watch, laugh and cry they'll hand you tissues.
- The Notebook
- The Secret Life of Bees
- Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (1&2)
- Titanic
- Steel Magnolias (the original)
- The Women of Brewster Place
- Waiting to Exhale
- Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood
Throw a Party. Doesn't have to be a special occasion just a reason to get together. Throw a tea party, dress up and have a blast. Parties are always a good way to get all your friends in one place at one time.
Go Shopping. Who doesn't love some good retail therapy? I don't know about you but I rearly shop for myself these days. It's either about the kids or the house, never really for me. So going on a little shopping trip with your girlfriends might just get you into Victoria's to pick up a secret. What might be even more fun is doing a clothes, shoe and accessory swap. Clothes Swap is a new trend and all the rage these days. Why not hold a clothes swap with your girls.Clean out your closet and accessory box of items you no longer wear bring them to one location and make the swap. It's fun and a great way to keep money in your pocket.
Take a Road Trip. Doesn't have to be anywhere far but a nice getaway with your friends is always a positive. Now let me caveat this... do NOT go anywhere with your freeloading friend (we all have one) make sure the girls you invite are gainfully employed and won't have any issues with expenses.
Capture A Memory. If you watch a chick flick together document it, if you throw that party make sure you get a picture with all your girls, going shopping snap a pic and on the road trip make sure you document the adventure! Pictures are truly worth a thousand words so make sure you have a lasting memory.
Until next time...

The Truth About Heat Stoke
Hey Y'all
Today is National Heat Stoke day. I know summertime is winding down but the hot weather might be around for a little longer. I just watched this video and it REALLY messed me up.
Source: Upworthy.com
This reenactment got me to the heart so I knew I had to share it.
As a mom I know how preoccupied we can be when running errands and often times we forget lots of things. I've been guilty of moving to fast and almost left a kid in the car buckled into their car seat. ALMOST. If you've read my blog you know that my husband has locked the twins in the car before but that was a accident. We have never left our kids in the car intentionally. Running into the store real quick, take your kid with you, just dropping something in the mailbox, don't leave that baby (or pet) in the car. A simple inconvenience can divert a lifetime of pain.
Here are some valuable facts about heatstroke that you need to know. Please share this information with your loved ones and be sure to check the backseat before you leave your car.

National Sunglasses Day: June 27th
Hey Y'all,
In honor of National Sunglasses Day I share this picture of the 3 Little Brown's with you.
What do Chinese judges of the 12th century and modern poker players on TV have in common? Both groups have used sunglasses to hide the emotions in their eyes.
"For centuries, Chinese judges had routinely worn smoke-colored quartz lenses to conceal their eye expressions in court," according to Idea Finder. Sam Foster is credited with elevating sunglasses to their current status as a fashion accessory. He began selling his Foster Grant sunglasses in Atlantic City in 1929.
Today we use sunglasses to protect our eyes from harmful UV rays. We also wear them because they look cool. Various movie icons have relied on sunglasses to achieve their look. Consider Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's," Tom Cruise in "Risky Business," and Arnold Schwarzenegger in "The Terminator."

Throw Back Thursday: The twins
Hey Folks,
Just want to say thank you to who ever came up with posting pictures for Throwback Thursday's. As I searched my Facebook account I came across some great pictures of my children that reminded me how far we've come. The below picture is of the twins sitting in their infant carriers. I don't remember how my husband every carried both of them around but he did.

Now they are big 5 year olds. Time really flies when you are having fun.
Hope you are enjoying your day.

Summer Fun 2013 - Daddy School
Hey Y'all,
Last year this time I was unemployed and the twins reaped the benefits of Mommy being home. Although I didn't have much money I made the most of our days together with Mommy School in the morning and fun field trips in the afternoon. We visited Imagine That Children's Museum, Turtle Back Zoo, Scribbles in the Mall and took a few day trips to visit some of my stay at home mom friends. They loved every single moment of my unemployment and their private time with me.
This year however I'll be making my way to work everyday except Friday and Daddy will be working from home. I took a hint from my good friend Tara over at The Young Mommy Life and have set up a nice schedule for the Three Little Browns who won't be going to summer camp and only visiting Nana for a few weeks.
Monday - Friday
Here are some of the places I will encourage him to take them.

Crafts will also be apart of daddy school. Mommy will check everything when she gets home in the evening. Tasks will be done both on and offline. We have access to very good educational sites and we'll make use of them for all age groups. Our top 3 online sites are
- http://www.abcya.com/

- Noon - 1:00 pm
- Lunch
- 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Love/Avon Army of Women: Going Beyond a Cure
Hey Y'all,
Each year, 19,000 new cases of breast cancer occur among African American women. That’s 19,000 too many.
I don't know about you but my family has been severely affected by breast cancer. Two of my aunts were taken from me way to soon due to the disease. I know that I carry the gene and am prepared to have my first mammogram next year (I'll be 39) and I make sure to give myself breast exams at least once a week. I have three beautiful children to care for and a fantastic husband to love until we are old and gray. I will not become a victim of this horrible disease. So when I heard about the Love/Avon Army of Women project I knew I had to participate.
According to the American Cancer Society, our five-year survival rate of breast cancer is 77%, compared to white women's rate of 90%. African American women are more likely to develop breast cancer at a younger age, and we tend to develop more aggressive tumors, which are harder and more expensive to treat.
Enter Dr. Kathleen Arcaro from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She studies breast cancer by studying breastmilk, which is full of breast cells key in figuring out how breast cancer develops. Over the past ten years she's worked to improve our understanding of breast cancer risk, and her findings may lead to new screening, prevention and treatment strategies.
The problem? Black women are underrepresented in the research. As a result, findings that work for white women or women with less aggressive forms of breast cancer, don’t work for the majority of black women grappling with the disease.
To ensure her findings are applicable to women of all races, she has been working to recruit African American women for the Love/Avon Army of Women, a project aiming to recruit one million women to sign up to participate in breast cancer research (if they choose to do so). By signing up, participants will receive an email newsletter with breast cancer research opportunities. Some research is as simple as a questionnaire or a phone interview.
Having African American women well represented in the breast cancer research is key, for her research and many others.’ So Dr. Arcaro hopes black women will sign up for the Army of Women (and be sure to select “breast milk study” in the drop down menu to help track the impact).
You can learn more about Dr. Arcaro’s work, and see if you or other women you know might qualify for one of her studies, at the website of the UMass Breastmilk Lab, and follow the lab on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
Please sign up today!
Until next time...

Until next time...
