YouTube The New School!

Hey Y'all,

We ALL use it. To listen to music, watch tv shows, movies and trailers, upload video, confirm rumors, laugh at the antics of others etc. We all use YouTube for some reason or another. According to their press area YouTube boasts the following...

Traffic

  • Over 800 million unique users visit YouTube each month
  • Over 3 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube
  • 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute
  • 70% of YouTube traffic comes from outside the US
  • YouTube is localized in 43 countries and across 60 languages
  • In 2011, YouTube had more than 1 trillion views or around 140 views for every person on Earth
  • Millions of subscriptions happen each day. Subscriptions allow you to connect with someone you're interested in — whether it's a friend, or the NBA — and keep up on their activity on the site
YouTube is a part of our everyday life, for me it provides continuing education. As I shared yesterday my new business Leah Simone Designs which features hand made crochet items for mom and child, from blankets to crochet jewelry we create it all and none of this would have been possible without the help of YouTube.

Did you know that there are thousands of videos online that teach you things? From cooking to cleaning, drawing to well even teaching. There are videos out there that teach just about everything. I was lucky enough to find a host of videos that teach folks how to crochet! Step by step if you are a beginner there are beginner videos and if you are advanced but looking for new ideas there are some pretty advanced stitches being crocheted over the internet. The following folks are my daily inspiration and web teachers. I am a person who likes to spread the love so I am shouting them out here. If you see something they are doing that you absolutely love please support them.

O.V.W. Proverbs 31:10-31- One Virtuous Woman is my FAVORITE jewelry teacher. All of the Tuesday Tuitorials she has shared equal the bulk of the earrings I make. Marcelle is amazing and fun to follow. Her favorite hook is 2.0 and lord knows she knows how to use it. Please like her fan page on facebook and subscribe on YouTube - "I share my crochet Creations, Creator of Fresh Off Tha Hook Series, and Gifted Hands, Crochet of tha day, Tutorial Tuesday, Scripture Saturday. LET ME TEACH YOU HOW TO CROCHET AND BE CREATIVE!"

MikeySSmail,The Crorchet Crowd - Yes, men do crochet and Mikey is one that I found and will not let go of! I know I use the word Amazing a lot but what he creates really is just that AMAZING. One of my most challenging yet exciting pieces is a six point star blanket. I learned how to make it by watching his videos. He is concise, quick, fun and upbeat. He makes learning really easy and the patterns he comes up with are simple to follow. Please follow him on facebook and subscribe on YouTube. - "Learn Fun Crochet Projects with 100's of Free Tutorials. Stuff for the baby, kids, yourself and much more. Holiday projects and much more. I keep it simple and the teaching slow on camera to help the viewer succeed. Many thousands of crocheters who have never picked up a hook can now crochet thanks to the videos posted right here!"

Meladora's Creations - I learned how to make hats from her. Again another fun and concise teacher. She has really interesting creations that are beautiful. Please be sure to check out her store on Etsy her facebook page and of course her YouTube Channel. - "I do free crochet patterns & tutorials and upload at least once a week. The free crochet patterns to these tutorials is on my web site at: http://meladorascreations-com.webs.com/"

  3. I totally agree, I watch OVW crochet so much when I first started to crochet, a whopping 2 months ago, that my little 4 year old niece would as, "where's my cousin" when I was not watching. People ask how I learned to crochet and I tell them I attend Youtube University!
    Great blog,
    Happy Crocheting!!!
